Eliminating Communication Barriers

Does your agency have a language access plan in place? Access to Languages develops plans to ensure persons with limited English proficiency have meaningful access to your programs.

What is an Language Access Plan?

A language access plan is a document that outlines how an organization will provide services to people who are non-English speaking or have limited English proficiency (LEP). The plan should be tailored to the organization, but may include common sections like:

  • A needs assessment

  • A list of language services offered

  • Notices

  • Staff training

  • An evaluation

  • A list of translated documents and languages

  • The number of staff with language access skills

  • A training plan

  • An annual monitoring plan

  • Outreach strategies
